A tad late with this, but the season has practically started so I’ll try to be on point.

  •  Absolute Duo : The first of the light novel adaptations that follows a protagonist with unique ability(s) gaining a harem. Always somewhat enjoyable, if not very original. Somewhat TLDR; main guy can summon a shield in a world where weapons are summoned and the cute loli-girl is his partner…
  • Kantai Collection -KanColle- : Arguably one of the biggest shows of the season. Take WWII Warships and personify them with girls and you can take Japan by storm (it was literally the biggest craze of last year). The animation designs seem so-so, but the trailers and promise of more action than slice-of-life has me excited.
  • Shinmai Maou no Testament : The second light novel adaptation with unique power-kun / harem gainer. This one focuses on a hero that gains control over a the new demon king (princess?) and must protect her (she’s his stepsister from what I understand) from other demons and heroes that are inevitably female and will inevitably fall for the main protagonist.
  • Tokyo Ghoul √A : Season 2 and the first sequel to hit us. This one follows the zombie-epic anime from 2014 and continues right after the protagonist awakens to some new powers and abilities. I followed the manga pretty far and can vouch that the story at its core is quite good.
  • Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata : Main rom-com of the season, follows a typical otaku that falls in love with a girl and makes her his muse in the creation of a dating-sim. The manga’s art was what originally attracted me to this, but the premise of making a dating-sim could be implemented pretty well as past animes doing similar things have been excellent (Bakuman, Shirobako etc)
  • Koufuku Graffiti : SHFT 4-koma adaptation about girls eating delicious foods…
  • Juuou Mujin no Fafnir : The third light novel adaptation with unique power-kun / harem gainer. This one focuses on a world where only females gain superpowers known as “D”, but this one boy has it too! The chosen one he is…
  • THE IDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls : The second of the season’s “Titan” shows, this one is sort-of a sequel to the original IDOLM@STER, but this time focussing on a new set of girls. IDOLM@STER set the bar for what an idol anime should be and none have been able to match it since (Wake Up Girls!, Love Love! etc). This one looks like it will be just as good.
  • Assassination Classroom : Another pretty big show, this one is based on the extremely successful manga about a class trying to kill their alien teacher to save the earth.
  • Death Parade : Based off a movie produced for the New Animator’s Project during 2013, this is a extension (sequel) of the original Death Billiards movie. From what I recall of the premise, groups of people find themselves in a bar where they play games with high stakes as their judgement in the afterlife.
  • Durarara!!x2 Shou : Sequel to the largely successful show from a few years back. This will be divided into 3 separate cours over 3 separate seasons. From what I understand the goal is to finish the last 10 volumes; I may need to rewatch S1.
  • ALDNOAH.ZERO Season 2 : Biggest sequel of the season. Continuing on from the big WTF moment at the end of Season One is the next part of Urobuchi Gen’s masterpiece.
  • THE ROLLING GIRLS : In a world where each prefecture in Japan is a separate nation. Four girls will travel around to mediate… I think this is an anime original.
  • Junketsu no Maria : During the hundred years war, a young witch receives judgement from the archangel Michael that will make her lose all of her powers should she become devirginized… Despite the somewhat outthere premise, I’ve actually enjoyed the source and the series has more charm than you’d think.
  • Seiken Tsukai no World Break : The fourth light novel adaptation with unique power-kun / harem gainer. This one focuses on a world with two powers, but the hero is the first person in history with both!

  • Tantei Kageki Milky Holmes TD – Sequel to the immensely popular Bushiroad detective anime. I’ve not finished the first season, but it has been on my list for years. (Mostly for Izumi Kitta & Mimori Suzuko’s roles though).
  • Yuri Kuma Arashi – Humans VS Space-Bears, kind of quirky and the art reminds me of Utena.
  • Kami-sama Hajimemashita ◎ – Season two of the supernatural romance. I like the mange; never quite finished the anime; it’s on the list.
  • Soukyuu no Fafner EXODUS – Sequel to a somewhat older mecha anime that I recalled to be pretty depressing. I thought the series was quite finished then a movie came out and now this… I may need to revist the world of Fafner.
  • DOG DAYS” – Never been a show I really watched when it aired, but always entertaining when I binge watch.
  • Yoru no Yatterman – Remake of Yatterman, a sleep hit is what I’m thinking…
  • Sengoku Musou – Game -> Anime adapation, I hope it will be more like Tales of the Abyss than the disappointing Blaz Blue.
  • ISUCA – Manga adapatation that I found somewhat amusing. Has to do with this kid who discovers the ture name of a girl and is thus forced into a close relationship with her and thrust into a world of fantasy..

As for my top picks are….

Assassination Classroom

Aldnoah;Zero S2

Death Parade

Durarara!!x2 Shou

THE IDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls
