Another season, another one of these.

  • GANGSTA. – Looks like a southern European flavoured Black Lagoon following on the tail of last season’s Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront). I think there is a slow resurgence of 90s-esque anime and this looks to be equally fun.
  • Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Sen’eku (Red Dragon War) – A somewhat original anime based on a tabletop RPG. I’m hoping this series has the adventurous feel that Danmachi had last season.
  • Aquarion Logos – Another addition to the Aquarion franchise for the 10th anniversary. I’ve enjoyed every Aquarion series thus far and fully expect this one to be excellent as well, but it might be something I’ll have to marathon after it airs. The fact that AKINO is not singing the OP or ED gives the series a strange vibe though.
  • Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace – A mystery/horror anime bin celebration of a famed mystery writer Edogawa Ranpo 50 years after his death. I’m always a fan of good mystery series and this one is showing lots of promise.
  • Aoharu x Kikanjuu – Cross-dressing girl with an interest in survival games aims to be the best in Japan with her team.
  • GATE: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri (Gate: The Self-Defense Force Fights Like This in Another Land) Probably one of the big hits this season about modern military incursion into new fantasy world. This looks like it will have harem vibes, but the main hero character is middle-aged so not very traditional.
  • Classroom Crisis – School, space story set on Mars!
  • Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai – Somewhat alright premise, though the animation is one of my main draws right now.
  • Durarara!!x2 Ten – Another of the big shows this season is the next of 3 planned seasons of Durarara!!.
  • Charlotte – One of this season’s big shows, Maeda Jun’s (Angel Beats) next original series and animated by P.A. Works!
  • WORKING!!! – Long awaited 3rd season of the popular restaurant comedy. (Another big show of the season).
  • Rokka no Yuusha – 6 Heroes summoned, 7 people arrive. Is out main man the imposter? Based on a light novel.
  • God Eater – Legendary studio ufotable animates big Monster Hunter-esque series based on a 2010 PSP game. (Another big show of the season).
  • Akagami no Shirayukihime – Twist and expansion on the Snow White story. It seems like we are getting more and more shoujo adaptations lately.
  • Jitsu wa Watashi wa – Supernatural rom-com that is based on a manga I’ve always meant to start.
  • Overlord – Another one of the big shows of this season, guy gets trapped in the game as a lich-type character, based on a light novel. I really enjoy this light novel, but the animation feels like they will tone down some of the dark stuff from the novels.
  • Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou – One of the weirder series that could be considered a big show of the season; monster girl harem!
  • Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan – Light novel based series, about a disgraced soldier given command of a problematic team of girls.
  • Gakkou Gurashi! – Four girls somehow become survivors in a zombie apocalypse.
  • Prison School – Based on a manga that I thought was interesting enough…

  • Okusama ga Seito Kaichou! (My Wife is the Student Council President!) – The title is all one needs to know to see that this will be a slightly ecchi student comedy. I don’t really think the show itself will have much substance, but could be a guilty pleasure.
  • Danchigai – 4-koma based series following the same old “guy thrown in with a bunch of girls, come see the results” cliche’, but it may stand itself out.
  • Joukamachi no Dandelion – Feels like it could be a sleeper.
  • Hetalia: The World Twinkle – Hetalia is always one of those fun series to turn on, though I fear I may be too used to the English dub at this point…
  • Ushio to Tora – Remake of a classic.
  • Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX – One day I plan to catch up on this series.
  • Gatchaman Crowds Insight – Very wary due to the first season.
  • To LOVE-Ru – Trouble Darkness 2nd – To LOVE-Ru holds a special place in most male otaku’s hearts but I just can’t find actual plot…
  • Non Non Biyori Repeat – 3rd Season of this slice-of-life comedy. I didn’t see the 2nd season, but I did enjoy the 1st season.
  • Sore ga Seiyuu! – 4-koma based series about the voice acting industry.
  • Bikini Warriors – Looks like an ecchi action series made to sell figures.
  • THE IDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls 2 – Not sure how I felt about the first season…
  • Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya Zwei Herz! – More Illya is good!

And my top picks are… (Non-sequels)

Gate: The Self-Defense Force Fights Like This in Another Land

God Eater

All are non-sequels, else I woulda put Durarara and Working on there as well.
